What's up with fake Olympic fireworks?

Of all the places I'd think could put on a real fireworks show, China would be at the top of my list, yet they added CGI fireworks effects to the Olympics opening show. Impressive that they could insert the effects into a live TV feed, but still, one would not expect fake fireworks from the home of fireworks.
