Different from what most expect, but I’d been wondering the same since Apple dropped the 3^rd gen iPad w/RD but kept the non-RD iPad 2.

Today, netbooks are dead, Microsoft did nothing with Windows 7 on slates, and they aren’t doing much better with Windows 8.
